Dead Man Walking

on

“Because of You we are put to death the whole day, we were counted as sheep for the slaughter” (Romans 8:36 ONM)

Hollywood comes up with all these movies about zombies which we know are fictitious.  When you leave the earth, there are only two directions your spirit can go; up or down.  You will never wake up still dead and start walking around again.  When we got saved it didn’t include the flesh and soul.  We received redemption of our spirit. Now our renewed spirit must be conditioned so that it kills the soulish and fleshy part of us and puts them into subjection.  When we crucify the flesh we truly become dead men walking. We walk dead to sin but we live as Christ. Paul said it best in Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.  And the life I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”   Everything pertaining to our old life need to be crucified, that’s what Jesus meant when He told us to take up our cross and follow Him (Luke 9:23). God is so amazing He can do what those Hollywood people can’t, make the dead walk and live at the same time.  As dead men walking in the kingdom of God, we crucify all our fleshy passions and desires (Galatians 5:24).  Hollywood directors could never cause earthly bodies to die, yet still be alive, only a redeeming Savior can do that “Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry” (Colossians 3:5).

We all know that when a body dies and is not embalmed or buried it will start decomposing and start smelling putrid. God’s dead men walking have been embalmed and filled with His Holy Spirit and they walk with the sweet smelling sacrificial aroma of Christ “For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing” (2 Corinthians 2:15). Just as some people are allergic to certain natural fragrances, the enemy will cause some to be allergic to the sweet-smelling aroma of Christ, the devil will make it smell putrid to them “To the one we are the fragrance of death, which brings death, and to the other a fragrance of life, which brings life. Who is sufficient for these things?” (2 Corinthians 2:16 MEV).   Let’s do our spiritual service and offer our bodies as living sacrifices to God (Romans 12:1), so that the smell of our crucified burning flesh gives an acceptable sweet aroma in His nostrils.  Then we will truly be citizens of dead men walking in the city of God.
