Single but Never Alone

on

But I prefer that you have no concern. He who is unmarried cares for the things of the Lord, how he may please the Lord.” (1 Corinthians 7:32 MEV)

I remember some time ago a co-worker asked me if I was married.  I replied yes and began to describe my husband to her.  I told her I couldn’t have asked for a better husband. Whenever I needed to talk, no matter what time of day, he was there to listen. When I would experience discouragement, he would love me and give me encouragement. Not just on Valentine Day or other holidays, but every day he showers me with gifts and loving affirmation. When I created adulterous affairs with other things which seemed to be more important and priority to me than my relationship with him, he forgave me and welcomed me back with open arms.  At that time, I let her know that we had been married more than thirty years.   As the look of envy seemed to build in her eyes I finally let her know that I was talking about my Lord and Savior Jesus. This also opened the door to witness to her and I let her know that she too could have this same relationship with Him.

I’ve met quite a few unhappy single Christians.  But I want to encourage you and let you know that this can be one of the most exciting times of your life. Paul also states that when you are married there are some distractions; (1 Corinthians 7:33) husbands how they may please their wives and wives how they may please their husbands.  He wasn’t stating this as a bad thing but in the married household there are also others and other things that need to be included in your daily lives “I say this for your own benefit, not to put any restraint upon you, but for what is proper and that you may serve the Lord without distraction” (1 Corinthians 7:35 MEV). God is the one who instituted marriage between a man and a woman, and it is pleasing in His sight.  Wanting to be married is a wonderful thing but you need to make sure you are prepared for it.  I tell singles unless you are content and happy in your singlehood you will never be happy in a marriage because no one completes you, they complement you.  For the woman, the bible says, “Whoever finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor of the Lord” (Proverb 18:22 MEV). The operative word here is wife, not girlfriend, woman, or lady.  That means just like the body of Christ is in preparation as the bride to receive Him when He returns for us, in your singlehood, you are in preparation to be a wife to the man God has prepared for you.

Remember you might be single but you are never alone. Like I said, your singlehood can be one of the most exciting times of your life as you build your relationship with the Lord.  Just as the Holy Spirit is adorning and preparing you to meet your Husband, Jesus, He can also prepare and adorn you for that spouse here on earth that you are longing for.
