BAGGAGE CLAIM

on

“Therefore, leaving behind the initial lessons about the Messiah, let us go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of turning from works that lead to death, trusting God,” (Hebrews 6:1)

Anyone familiar with traveling on an airline has experienced one time or another of having your baggage lost.  After you get to your destination you go to baggage claim, fill out a form, and then painstakingly flip through pictures to pick out the luggage that looks close to what you can remember of your bag.  Then you wait to hear from the airline.  Sometimes it can be the same day or a few days later and sometimes your bag winds up in a place better than where you are vacationing.

With the knowledge of how tedious, stressful, and weight bearing the whole experience is of claiming lost baggage, some Christians choose to go through that process to reclaim their emotional baggage.  After Jesus has checked in your emotional bags and released you from them, why would you want to stand in a baggage claim line to retrieve them, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls]” (Matthew 11:28).  Do you go to the altar and take your worry, panic, depression, hatred, unforgiveness, betrayal, guilt, shame, anger, stress, hurt, fear, and pride then get up and start stuffing your pockets again with all the emotional baggage before you leave?  Once you check your baggage at the cross don’t head down to the baggage claim to retrieve it.  Most of all when you get home don’t start repacking another emotional baggage.
