From Red to White

on

“Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the Lord, “Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool.” (Isaiah 1:18)

One of the hardest stains to remove from a garment is a blood stain.  Various vendors who sell washing detergent, in their commercials, will usually use blood stains as an example to show the full strength of their product.

There is a blood when once it is applied it will leave a stain which does just the opposite. It cleanses to a white which is whiter than snow.  This is the blood of Jesus. The bible says without the blood there is no redemption, “[In fact] under the Law almost everything is purified by means of blood, and without the shedding of blood there is neither release from sin and its guilt nor the remission of the due and merited punishment for sins” (Hebrews 9:22).  Blood was the method of redemption all the way back in the Garden of Eden when God killed an animal to clothe Adam and Eve after they had sinned.  In Exodus 12:22 God had Israel take hyssop and dip it in the blood from the Passover lamb and apply in the shape of the cross for their redemption from death.  Hyssop is the little shrub with which the blood and water of purification were applied.  After he had sinned and committed adultery with Bathsheba, King David knew he didn’t need his servants to wash his kingly garments with Tide, Shout, or Gain detergent to become clean from his sin.  He knew his filthy stain was from within and he needed a good blood cleansing, 8 (6) Still, you want truth in the inner person; so make me know wisdom in my inmost heart.9 (7) Sprinkle me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow” (Psalms 51:6-7 CJB). Just like David, we too want to be blood stained.  When our Passover Lamb, Jesus, died on the cross, He applied the blood and water with hyssop and cleansed us whiter than snow, “But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came (flowed) out” (John 19:34).

This is the blood stain that we don’t try to remove, we want to be covered in the blood of Jesus. It is the cleansing power we need for the garment of our final adornment, “I replied, Sir, you know. And he said to me, These are they who have come out of the great tribulation (persecution), and have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb” (Revelation 7:14).  Go out and witness to the world, let them see your bloodiness!!
