The Whole Truth; Nothing but the Truth

on

But when He, the Spirit of Truth (the Truth-giving Spirit) comes, He will guide you into all the Truth (the whole, full Truth).   (John 16:13 AMPC)

“Do you solemnly swear that the testimony you are about to give is the truth, the whole truth, so help you God?”   This was the verbiage a witness in court had to acknowledge while placing their hand on the bible before they were allowed to testify.

This nation was built on Godly and Biblical principles, even though now they are being denied by so many citizens and government officials.  Because of  biblical principles and its truths, it was believed that anyone who would place their hand on His Word (bible) and attest to the statement quoted before testifying, would be truthful.  We know that not to be so, because some witnesses then and now still commit perjury.   Bible principles and beliefs have been removed from our schools, governments, and most of our judicial system.  Our courts no longer feel that our oath to tell the truth need to have any affirmation from the Word of God.  Instead of being at risk of lying against the teaching (Torah) of the bible, they now seem to rely on witnesses telling the truth at the risk of facing consequences of perjury.  There are statements now allowing witnesses to state their affirmation based upon the perjury risk.  Those that are atheists can now place their hand on a plain black book upon request.   Our system has changed so much from the original meaning of testimony.  The Old North French word “testimonie” meaning evidence, proof or demonstration of some fact, legal testimony, sworn statement of a witness.  The Latin word “testimonium” meaning evidence, proof, witness, attestation.

The definition of a testament is a declaration of a truth or fact.  It is also evidence in support of a fact or assertion; proof.   Another definition for testimony is evidence given under oath by a person, especially statements made by a witness in a court.  This was done by God when He gave Moses what we call the Ten Commandments which actually in the original writings is Ten Statements (Exodus 20:1-14).   Even when Moses set up the civil laws it required at least two or three witness to bring any testimony against anyone that sinned (Deuteronomy 19:15).  Jesus reiterated this in Matthew 18:15-16 and so did Paul in 2 Corinthians 13:1 and 1 Timothy 5:19. We always like to use these scriptures “every word being established by two or three witness” for getting all our requests answered by God, but in fact Jesus and Paul were still quoting this same civil law as written, addressing sin.   We have the martyrs, which is taken from the Greek words martyreo (‘to bear witness’ or ‘to testify’) mareyria (the record) mareys (the person bearing witness).  John also proclaims the witness of Jesus from what he heard, seen and touched so that we can also have fellowship with Him (1 John 1:1-3).

The bible is still the testimony giving witness of God’s truth through His Son, Jesus (John 8:17-18).  John the Baptist was sent as a witness of Jesus and to confirm the truth of the Old Testament prophet’s testimonies of the coming Messiah (John 1:6-8).  Then we have the third witness of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth (John 15:26-27).   He will reveal and confirm everything the Lord has spoken.  He will reveal the hidden mysteries in the truth.  The Lord is still requiring every born again believer to be a witness of the truth.

I heard someone make a statement one time.  “If you were arrested for being a Christian, would they have enough evidence to convict you?”   I ask you, as an officer of the courts of heaven and a witness for Christ, are you emanating and speaking the whole truth and nothing but the truth?
