Declaration or Decoration

on

Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all the peoples! (Psalm 96:3 ONM)

I remember hearing a story of a woman who had road rage. She was finally pulled over by the police and arrested.  Later while she was still in jail, the arresting officer came to her and apologized for arresting her.  He told her he thought she had stolen the car because her behavior didn’t exhibit the message written on the Christian bumper sticker on the vehicle. This lady isn’t the only one who try to declare the Lord to the world with decorations.  Surely the cross worn around the neck; the bumper sticker on the car; the bible carried around everywhere you go tells the whole redemption story.  No decoration can replace declaration. Decorations don’t put the devil to flight, but declaring the word of the Lord does.  Jesus proved that when He was tempted in the wilderness.   Decorations can’t make the sound of a statement nor an announcement of the declaration.  We need to declare with our mouths “Come and hear all ye that fear God, and I will declare what he hath done for my soul” (Psalm 66:16).  The bumper sticker could never tell the full story of glad tidings or of His promises “And we declare unto you, glad tidings, how the promise which was made unto the fathers” (Acts 13:32). When Jesus gave His intercessory prayer, in John 17:26, He knew how important declaration was to the world “And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it, that the love with which thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.” David and Nicole Binion’s song, “As it is in Heaven,” has a couple of lyrics that really speak about declaring. In the refrain of the song it says, “I want to say what you say” and ending with “Declaring your will in the earth, as it is in heaven.”

The only One that can speak volumes with decorations and make a declaration is our God. “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament showeth His handiwork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night showeth knowledge.  There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard” (Psalms 19:1-3). The universe is a revelation and declaration of God’s power and Deity of which the word of God says it leaves man without an excuse (Romans 1:19-20).  Don’t allow the rocks, cross necklace, or angel hanging from the car rearview mirror to cry out for you.  Open your mouth and declare the Name of the Lord!  The best decoration you can have is to declare the name of the Lord and watch His Glory cloud fill the room.  There can be no denial of His existence once the Cloud of His presence fills a room.
