Yeshua spoke to them again: “I am the light of the world; whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light which gives life.” (John 8:12 CJB)
When calamity, distress, and other problems seem to surround in darkness like a tunnel, everyone has pretty much heard the expression ‘there’s light at the end of the tunnel’. This expression gives the impression that things will not get better until you are able to see the light at the end of that dark tunnel. If this being the case, do you just stumble in the dark until you see light? Do you keep bumping against the wall possibly sustaining an injury until you see the light? Do you try to adjust your eyes to become nocturnal to see in the dark?
As children of God, we have a very different tunnel. If life tries to darken you in a tunnel, the Light (Christ) we seek isn’t at the end of the tunnel but within the tunnel with you. The bible lets us know that in God there is no darkness, “And this is the message which we have heard from him and proclaim to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him — none!” (1 John 1:5 CJB). If we are in Christ we are a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17), so our tunnel experience is totally different. Becky Fender years ago sung a song entitled Give Him Thanks. The refrain of the song stated, “In the good times praise His Name, in the bad times do the same. In everything give the King of King all the thanks.” What a perfect example of walking in the light as He is in the light (1 John 1:7) even in the dark tunnel moments. We see the Light in our situations. My pastor, Bishop Paul Lanier, recently said, “In the darkness of the night He will give you light. You become so use to the dark place, the light scares you.” So, as children of Light, stop fumbling around in the dark feeling your way to the light, just walk in the light that’s in the tunnel.
