And he said to Him, To You I will give all this power and authority and their glory (all their magnificence, excellence, preeminence, dignity, and grace), for it has been turned over to me, and I give it to whomever I will.7 Therefore if You will do homage to and worship me [just once], it shall all be Yours.8 And Jesus replied to him, Get behind Me, Satan! It is written, You shall do homage to and worship the Lord your God, and Him only shall you serve. (Luke 4:6-8)
The offer that the devil was making for this massive real estate for Jesus to pay homage to him, was ridiculous. He was offering property, power, and authority to the owner, “The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness of it, the world and they who dwell in it” (Psalm 24:1). Jesus had come to redeem it all back (authority, dominion, power) to its rightful caretakers. God had created, loved, and trusted his greatest creation, man, to take care of his property with specific instructions, “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth” (Genesis 1:28). Unfortunately, man transgressed on these instructions and allowed a shady real estate deal to go down with a lying realtor. This deal allowed sin to enter in the world through causation of lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and the pride of life (1John 1:26). This deal was so bad not only did it bring creation (man) into sin but also cursed the very land that they gave away. Jesus was drawn into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit to deal with this shady deal. He was offered the same thing three things in the deal, lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, but as the rightful owner He shut the deal down with the original contract of the Word. Satan had been served an official foreclosure on the dominion that he had no right to, which was obtained by theft. Jesus finally sealed the deal on the new contract with His death, blood, and resurrection. A foreclosure is a legal proceeding that bars or extinguishes a mortgagor’s (devil) right of redeeming a mortgaged estate, “[But] in the last of these days He has spoken to us in [the person of a] Son, Whom He appointed Heir and lawful Owner of all things, also by and through Whom He created the worlds and the reaches of space and the ages of time [He made, produced, built, operated, and arranged them in order]” (Hebrews 1:2). Jesus gave His life and blood, took back the keys, to redeem us and foreclose on Satan. He didn’t do this to regain authority He never lost, but to restore the authority back to mankind, who gave it away. So, as a people of the King who have been given authority again, start possessing and subduing the land for the Kingdom of God.
