That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death (Philippians 3:10).
Lots of people really like to use that question: what would Jesus do? How in the world would you know what He would do—if you don’t read and study His Word? A better question would be what did Jesus do? Only in His Word lay the answer to that question. Also, if you get to know Him intimately you will never have to fathom in your mind or second guess His response. Solomon says in Ecclesiastes 1:9, “there is nothing new under the sun.” For every action, the reaction of Jesus is in His Word. God said His ways, thoughts, are not our ways and thoughts, but if you get an intimate relationship with him through prayer and the Word, guess what you will learn? His character. You ever had a close friend, or even your spouse—that if any negative information regarding them was presented to you from an outsider, you would know whether it was a true are false statement? You were so connected to that person, and knew what would be totally out of character for that person to say or do such a thing. Also, you would pretty much know their reaction to any given situation. The same thing is true with God, because we have formed a close relationship with Him.
If someone came and said, “He doesn’t love, care, heal, speak to you…” We know that—without blinking—God’s character is love; His character is a healer, and whether through a rhema word (an utterance or spoken word from God), or to our spirits, He is a great orator. Because we have such an intimate relationship with Him, we have personal knowledge of everything that He does. “For this cause, we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God” (Colossians 1:9-10). How many remember when you were children and you and your very best buddy made that pinky swear covenant to be best friends forever just like King David and Jonathan? Now many years later you are asking yourself what was his or her last name; and don’t even know if they are still living in the same state. The Lord assures us that the covenant that we make with Him, He will forever and ever be with us and never forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6). We can always be in contact with Him every day and hour. The word of God lets us know that our covenant with Him is so air-tight and bondable, it’s closer than any other brotherhood comradery you can form “A man who has friends must himself be friendly, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother” (Proverbs 18:24). Why would you not want a relationship with Jesus who sticks closer than a brother?
